Portrait session with Mark Synnott.

I had the great pleasure of photographing the legendary Mark Synnott at his home in Jackson, NH. I had been trying to arrange a shoot with Mark for a long time, and while he was extremely receptive he is also extraordinarily busy! It all worked out as I was able to get him some  photos for his new book, “The Third Pole: Mystery, Obsession and Death on Mt. Everest” and I managed to get a few really excellent portraits on 35mm film that suit my particular style. I was also able to get some family photos with his wife Hampton and their youngest son, which was a lot of fun.

Mark Synnott is a New York Times bestselling author, a pioneering big wall climber and one of the most prolific adventurers of his generation. His search for unclimbed and unexplored rock walls has taken him on more than 30 expeditions to places like Alaska, Baffin Island, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland, Patagonia, Guyana, Venezuela, Pakistan, Nepal, India, China, Tibet, Uzbekistan, Russia, Cameroon, Chad, Borneo, Oman and Pitcairn Island. Closer to home, Mark has climbed Yosemite’s El Capitan 24 times, including several one-day ascents.
